Sanctuary News

Two BIG projects this year (2026)

This spring at Serendipitous Shepherdess Sanctuary, we’re stepping into a new season of building, and we’re excited to share it with you.

Eight years ago, we built our original shelters from pallets and reclaimed materials. They’ve carried over 30 sheep, 10 goats, and multiple dozens of flocks of birds through snowstorms, mud season, flooding and some truly dramatic Vermont weather. They’ve done their job faithfully.

Now it’s time to rebuild them properly.

In May, we’ll begin rebuilding all six shelters using durable metal frames and insulated pallet walls so they can protect the flock for many winters to come. The total cost for this project is $10,000.

At the same time, we’re preparing something just as important.

Right now, the path from the driveway to the pasture is made of pallets laid over swampy ground. It worked when we needed it to, but it isn’t truly safe or accessible for visitors with mobility challenges.

So this summer, we’re building an ADA-compliant boardwalk called The Path to the Flock.

It will be 80 feet long, include a small bridge over the brook, and create a safe, stable way for everyone to reach the pasture. That project also has a $10,000 goal, with construction planned for June and July.

There are 100 planks in the boardwalk, and each one can carry a donor’s name or a short phrase, a small piece of devotion carried all the way to the flock.

Serendipitous Shepherdess Sanctuary is entirely volunteer run. Every dollar raised goes directly to animal care and the infrastructure that supports the animals.

If you’d like to support either project, you can donate here.

If you would like to reach out directly. We’re always happy to talk.

Six shelters. One promise.
