It started with a flock in need… and a whole lot of wool.
It became a calling—handcrafted, heartfelt, and rooted in tradition.
Hello! I’m Shiloh, the Serendipitous Shepherdess. My journey began in 2019 with the rescue of our first flock. As they settled into their new lives, I realized one very woolly truth:
we were going to have an awful lot of fleece.
At the time, I only knew how to needle felt—a quiet hobby I’d learned years before. But faced with armfuls of beautiful raw wool, I rolled up my sleeves and began to learn the old ways:
scouring, carding, spinning. From fleece to fiber, I taught myself to transform what the sheep gifted me into something useful, meaningful, and magical.
Then came the crafts—needle felting, wet felting, crochet, knitting, and weaving.
And after that, the color—only natural, of course. I dove into the plants and trees around us, learning the art of natural dyeing, coaxing gold from goldenrod, pink from sumac, and green from nettles.
🌿 Teaching the Traditions
As I learned, I shared. And as I shared, others joined me.
Soon, I found myself teaching everything from wool processing and spinning to herbal dyeing and animal care.
Our sanctuary has become a place of learning, laughter, and lanolin-scented wonder. Visitors come to meet the animals, learn an old-world craft, and connect with something ancient and gentle in this fast-paced world.
Workshops are open to all ages, and always free for youth 18 and under.
Because these traditions shouldn’t be locked away—they should be passed down, hands-on, heart-to-heart.
🐑 Why I Do It
Every creation I make is part of the greater work of our sanctuary.
Each woolen piece, each workshop, each story shared—every penny earned goes directly back to caring for our animals and supporting our educational mission.
This isn’t just craft—it’s caretaking.
This isn’t just tradition—it’s transformation.
